Programmers of the Future is an 11-month course (28,8 hours a week) during which participants will
first and foremost come to understand all that is necessary to know about (film)programming, but
secondly also bring in their own new ideas to inspire both the current programmers of the museum, as
well as visiting programmers, curators, critics & artists.
The training programme will aim to address a wide range of subjects. How to make connections between
archival material with contemporary works? How to analyze the zeitgeist in which a film was made and
how to relate this to the present? How to create accessible & sustainable exchange between audiences
and challenging cinematic experiences? What are the current developments and challenges facing new
generations wishing to work in the cultural/artistic field?
The course will function as an intense talent-development course in which the three participants work
closely together, follow workshops in programming and curating (both reflective, analytical and
practical), participate in artist talks and excursions having the guidance of Eye’s senior programmers and
external mentors. During the 11-month course participants will work on an individual thematic
programme to be presented within the context of Eye Filmmuseum towards the conclusion of their
traineeship. Participants are assisted to develop, deepen and execute those final projects.
