Emory Libraries Preservation Department offers a paid Media Preservation internship, focused on preserving and digitizing Emory Libraries audiovisual collections. Individuals from underrepresented communities who have a demonstrated interest in audiovisual preservation are encouraged to apply. Applicants may be: pre-graduate students pursuing training opportunities to learn and develop audiovisual preservation skills; current students in a media archiving, preservation, or equivalent graduate program; or recent graduates of such programs seeking to build and expand their skills.

Under the supervision of the Media Preservation staff, the successful applicant will have opportunities to develop skills in decision-making, focused on practical techniques by performing hands-on audiovisual conservation work and digitizing library materials. The intern will gain experience working with a variety of audio, video, and film formats, as well as workflows for preservation of born-digital material and description of audiovisual collections. The intern will gain exposure to the wider professional community through connections with staff and collections in nearby organizations, media archives, and libraries.

Pre-Program Internship
This internship will provide hands-on training in audiovisual conservation and digitization, a better understanding of the media preservation profession, and practical experience for graduate school applications. The candidate will work with Emory Libraries collection material and develop preservation skills for application to graduate school.

Graduate Internship
This internship will broaden and deepen skills in audiovisual preservation, better preparing the intern for the professional field. The intern will perform conservation work and digitization, learn from experienced colleagues, and participate in Media Preservation operations. Based on applicant interest, this may include a research project. Current students and recent media preservation program graduates will gain relevant experience through work with Emory Libraries collection material.
