SALARY:  $90,000.00 – $120,000.00 DOE

The Head of Collection Information and Digital Assets is responsible for managing the Amblin Hearth Archive’s collections catalogs, digital assets, and digital preservation workflows. The role oversees the processing, cataloging, and preservation of all time-based media (including analog formats) and born-digital assets. Additionally, the Head works collaboratively with its team and other departments to develop workflows and procedures, providing guidance and support. Some local travel will occasionally be required. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Archive Director.

This position will include, but will not be limited to, the following tasks:

  • Manage teams responsible for the processing and cataloging of time-based media and digital assets, including documents, photographs, audio, video, email, and web content
  • Responsible for hiring and retaining department staff, professional development for direct reports and accountable for the performance of employees.
  • Supervise a team, resolve employee relations issues and ensure work completion within schedule and constraints
  • Refine and document workflows for digital preservation and digital asset management
  • Oversee the packing and ingest of assets into the digital preservation system, monitoring the progress of digitization projects
  • Monitor and track the progress of time-based indexing of video footage
  • Fulfill requests for digitized and born-digital collection materials and following secure delivery protocols
  • Facilitate data clean-up projects within the collection management system
  • Keep abreast of emerging trends and best practices in digital preservation
  • Communicate regularly with Director of the Archive on project statuses and timelines
  • Liaise with IT and technical consultants to support software applications and request improvements
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications/Key Skills Required

  • MLIS or MIAS from an ALA-accredited university
  • 5+ years of archival experience working with databases and digital preservation
  • 3+ years supervisory and project management experience
  • High level of professionalism and integrity with the capacity to maintain confidentiality
  • In-depth understanding of digital preservation principles, digital formats, and concepts related to digital use, migration, and reformatting with an emphasis on image and time-based media formats
  • Working knowledge of standards and practices for physical and digital holdings in museum, archive, library, and audiovisual collections
  • Ability to work with IT and technical consultants to implement new or improved solutions
  • Exacting attention to detail, even when working under pressure
