Full-time Film Technician 40 hours/week

Northeast Historic Film (NHF) seeks a full-time film technician for up to six months to work on a grant-funded project. The project, funded by the National Historical Periodicals and Records Commission (NHPRC) is titled WCVB TV Boston, 1973-1974: Echoes from 50 Years Ago. The purpose of this project is to digitize, catalog, and share 2,969 news stories and programs produced by WCVB TV Boston, from the years 1973 and 1974. The material will be made available on Northeast Historic Film’s (NHF’s) website oldfilm.org and through the Boston TV News Digital Library. bostonlocaltv.org

The film technician will work with NHF’s Vault Manager on organizing, cleaning, repairing, and preparing 1,073,850 feet of 16mm film for digitization. The film technician must have previous experience and a high level of skill working with 16mm film.

This position reports to the Vault Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• With the Vault Manager, carefully handle the master 16mm film, maintaining clear records
of each item, noting damage.
• Assist with writing reports as required by granting agency and employer.
• Contribute to the project blog.

SKILLS
The successful applicant will have excellent planning, organizing, and problem-solving abilities. She/he will have experience with moving image materials. Familiarity with digital storage and workflow issues, and digital file management and preservation will be a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience as a moving image technician required.

PAY & BENEFITS
Salary $17-$19/hour, depending on experience.
