Washington University in St. Louis Libraries is excited to announce that the search has begun for a new project film preservationist position. The position will work on the recently acquired collection of renowned film and television production company Kartemquin Films, which has been making important social documentaries since the mid-1960s. Reporting to the Head of Preservation, Digitization & Exhibitions, this position will inspect the physical condition and identify the content of the analog film prints, production elements, and outtakes in the Kartemquin Film Collection. The incumbent will collaborate with the Curator of Film and Media and the Film Preservationist in determining preservation and digitization priorities for this film collection. Based on the age of the collection, a significant percentage of the films are experiencing acetic acid decay and other forms of deterioration. This position should expect to regularly interact with decaying prints as well as assist in shaping a long-term policy for caring for them. This is a term-limited two year position and is eligible for full benefits.
