GenAI Interest Group

The APA/AMIA joint Interest Group brings stakeholders together in conversation to discuss the of issues that GenAI presents for archives and possibilities for addressing them

As artificial intelligence reshapes society, archives find themselves at the crossroads of innovation and responsibility. AI offers remarkable opportunities to enhance accessibility, discover hidden narratives, and broaden public engagement with historical materials. However, it also raises critical challenges, including the implications of AI-generated content on historical integrity and the critical responsibility of archivists in ensuring authenticity and maintaining public trust in a digital-first world.

At the AMIA conference in 2024, the Archival Producers Alliance led a roundtable about the potential impacts of Generative AI on archives. As a result of the overwhelming interest the gathering generated, APA and AMIA are now creating a joint Interest Group.  The GenAI Interest Group brings stakeholders together in conversation to discuss the of issues that GenAI presents for archives and possibilities for addressing them.

Members of AMIA and APA are invited to join the calls. If you’re interested in joining the Interest Group, let us know and we’ll add you to the meeting invites and keep you posted on upcoming meetings.
