The Vietnam Center & Sam Johnson Vietnam Archive (VNCA) at Texas Tech University seeks a Specialist IV to help digitize its large collection of historic audio and video materials. The successful candidate will be expected to digitize various audio and video formats using specialized equipment, process the digitized files using various programs, describe the material’s contents, and then create database records for the materials in the VNCA’s ArchivesSpace database. They should also be able to care for and maintain the Center’s historic AV equipment and digitizers and properly care for its collection of physical media to include 8mm and 16mm film, reel-to-reel audio tape, and other formats. Other responsibilities include filming special events and programs for the VNCA and providing reference backup in the reading room. This position is a full-time staff position, reporting to the Associate Director. This position is not grant funded.
The Vietnam Center and Sam Johnson Vietnam Archive collects and preserves the documentary record of the Vietnam War and supports and encourages research and education regarding all aspects of the American Vietnam experience. We are located on the Texas Tech University campus in Lubbock, Texas, and are the largest private repository of Vietnam War related materials in the country. www.vietnam.ttu.edu
Required qualifications are a High School degree plus four years’ experience. Additional education may substitute on a year for year basis. Knowledge of AV equipment, digitization equipment, and processing programs is welcomed but not required. We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.
