Job Vacancy : Scanning Assistant and Film Archivist

We are a busy commercial film archive of long standing with a large and eclectic movie collection of documentaries and social history footage dating from the early twentieth century. Our clientele are media production companies working on feature docs, television docs, adverts, promotional, museum and other media and all working to very tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high quality of craftsmanship in film restoration.

Huntley Film Archives has recently acquired a new scanner and looking for a film archivist who can combine a high level of film handling with digital file creation and management. This is a degree level situation and we expect you provide a recent eye test. You will need video editing and scanning experience, ideally 16mm and 35mm but the smaller gauges would also be an advantage. You will need film restoration knowhow and historical sensitivity to the celluloid of your original. In addition, you will be digitising our tape collections. We expect perfection in organisational skills ! You will be highly organised, quick and methodical with excellent digital editing skills, knowledge of digitising formats in both sound and vision. This position will suit a candidate who is cheerful, friendly, proactive and works well as part of a team.

Your day to day tasks will be the operation and maintenance of our scanners, preparing celluloid originals for scanning, scanning, colour grading and storing of files, uploading of files to our website or sending directly to clients, organising files for storage, website maintenance, video tape copying, film archive maintenance and other digital and analogue tasks.

Huntley Film Archives is based in rural Herefordshire so a full driving licence is a requirement as you will be based at two locations.

Hours : 42 hours a week (shifts)

Contract : One year

Salary : dependant on experience and qualifications.
