Job Summary:

The Marilyn Vance papers document the career of costume designer Marilyn Vance, whose credits include Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Pretty Woman, The Untouchables, and The Breakfast Club. The Processing Intern is responsible for arranging and describing costume design drawings and research ranging Vance’s thirty-six-year career. This is a limited internship position beginning in June through December 2019 in the Graphic Arts Department of the Margaret Herrick Library reporting to the Production Art Librarian. The position will provide cataloging and acquisitions training for a graduate student of a program related to library, information, archives, or conservation studies.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Arrange and describe production art materials from the Marilyn Vance papers.
  • Create original catalog records in the Academy’s data management system, AdLib.
  • Identify conservation needs and coordinate with conservation staff to address them.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a MLIS program.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies, Art, or an allied field with a proven interest in film culture.
  • Prior library or archives experience, preferably in a special collections environment.
  • Awareness of cataloging principles.
  • Practiced in handling fragile materials.
  • Strong computer skills with database experience.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and efficient with the confidence to working independently and a pleasant personality to work successfully with colleagues.
  • Clear hand-writing and strong writing skills with attention to detail and orderly work habits.
  • Ability to lift/move moderately heavy boxes (20 lbs.) and other objects to and from high and low shelves and drawers.
