Amblin Partners is seeking a Digital Archivist. This position will be located at their Archives facility in North Burbank, California.
The Digital Archivist will be responsible for processing, cataloging, preserving, and facilitating access to digitized and born-digital collections. This position will oversee ingest workflows and monitor metadata entry across all physical and digital collections management systems to ensure the collections materials are handled in accordance with established standards and procedures. The Digital Archivist will also assist in the digitization, rehousing, and cataloging of physical collections materials as needed. This position will report to the Director of Archives and will lend support to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and workflows associated with the digital collections.
Responsibilities and Tasks
The Digital Archivist position will include, but will not be limited to, the following tasks and responsibilities:
– Assisting with the selection and onboarding of a new collections management system.
– Overseeing the migration of collection records and digital assets from legacy systems.
– Data cleanup and consolidation of data sources as assigned by the Director of Archives.
– Ensuring consistent and accurate metadata entry across all CMS, DAM, and LTDP systems.
– Collaborating with record creators to refine workflows to better prepare assets for transfer to archives.
– Processing and cataloging digital collections materials.
– Assisting with the implementation of policies and procedures related to the digital collections.
– Facilitating the secure distribution of digital assets to internal and external users.
– Assessing digitized and born digital assets for preservation, identifying at-risk formats, and developing strategies for normalization, migration, emulation, or other methods to ensure the integrity and accessibility of these materials.
– Assessing physical assets and drafting condition reports for newly accessioned materials and unprocessed materials in the collections.
– Assisting with physical collections digitization, processing, and cataloging tasks as needed.
Qualifications and Skills Required
– MLIS, MARA, or an equitable degree in a related field of study. Equivalent work experience and a demonstrated mastery of necessary skills may be considered as well.
– 3+ years of experience working with analog and born-digital archival materials.
– Comprehensive knowledge of legacy and contemporary file formats, particularly related to moving image, audio, still image, and other media formats.
– Comprehensive knowledge of records management, collections management, and digital asset management platforms.
– In-depth understanding of long-term digital preservation workflows and systems.
– Knowledge of prevailing standards in the fields of archives and records management, particularly related to metadata/taxonomy development, cataloging, and digital preservation.
– Ability to work with minimal supervision and to actively collaborate with team members.
– Commitment to professional development and continued education.
– Strict attention to detail with the ability to maintain focus and productivity while multitasking.
– Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other productivity software.
– Experience and knowledge of production workflows in the motion picture and television industries a plus.
– Knowledge of applying digital forensics tools and techniques to digital archives a plus.
– Ability to lift a minimum of 40lbs.
SALARY: $60,000 – $70,000 Depending on experience
