William S. O'Farrell Volunteer Award

At the recent AMIA Conference in Savannah, it was announced that AMIA will establish an annual award William S. O'Farrell Volunteer Award. The purpose of this award will be to recognize significant contributions to AMIA and to the field.

The Award is named for Bill O’Farrell and honors all that Bill did for the Association, the mentoring role he has played over the years to so many archivists, and his contribution to the field.

The Awards Committee is in the process of developing guidelines for the Award and the first William S. O’Farrell Volunteer Award will be presented in St. Louis at the 2009 Annual Conference.

WOOF

During the Conference, WOOF buttons could be spotted all around Savannah as a tribute to Bill O’Farrell.  After the Conference, Ken Weissman had an inbox full of requests for WOOF buttons from those who knew Bill.  He suggested that everyone have an opportunity to get a WOOF button and that the proceeds should benefit the new William S. O’Farrell Volunteer Award, and he worked with the AMIA Office to do just that.

To buy a WOOF button, just click here. The proceeds will go to support the volunteer award in Bill’s name.
