35mm movies fades to black as digital takes over

FOR the first time, the Sydney Film Festival is unlikely to screen any new films on 35mm.

Festival director Nashen Moodley says it marks a significant moment in the festival’s history. “This year we won’t have a single contemporary film on 35mm, it’s incredible how quickly the transition (to digital) has been,” he tells Reel Time. “I still do miss 35mm projection and those master projectionists we don’t see anymore.
