AMIA, in partnership with the Alamo Drafthouse and The Film Foundation, offers a three day Projection Workshop for projectionists and staff presenting 35mm film in theaters. Other workshop partners include Boston Light & Sound and Kodak.
As digital technology has presented new opportunities to filmmakers and exhibitors, it has also impacted the availability of prints for theatres showing 35mm film. Fewer prints are available, and many of those from archives and similar institutions who cannot replace prints should they become damaged. This makes the handling and projection of film prints critical.
The workshop will offer speakers and hands-on tutorials for projectionists working with 35mm film prints and will focus on film preparation and projection as well as special stipulations for archival projection, and coordinating with lending institutions. The workshop is aimed at those who have some booth experience and are looking to expand their knowledge and skills.
